Our Products –
Made with Love

For us, timeless design means one thing: perfection right from the start. That is why we search the globe for partners who are just as uncompromising when it comes to quality. We found most of our collaborators in Europe. It makes sense: we want to keep delivery channels short and ecological standards high. This is also true for our suppliers in China and India, who champion eco-friendly and fair practices as much as their colleagues in Europe.

The Sources –
Where We Produce

Italy – 46 percent

100 percent of our denim is produced and washed here.

Turkey – 15 percent

A leader in the development of premium jersey fabrics and innovative dyeing and wash techniques. Here products such as T-shirts and sweatshirts are made from exclusive cottons.

Portugal – 14 percent

Alongside handbags, our shirts and jersey products are also made here.

China – 15 percent

Silk and fine materials are processed here. Chinos and jackets are also produced. We work with Japanese fabrics that are shipped to Hong Kong to reduce transport routes.

Romania – 7 percent

This is where we work with companies specialising in jackets, coats and other on-trend ready-to-wear products.

Hungary – 1 percent

Under the expert guidance of our Italian specialists, Closed footwear is also produced here by a local manufacturer.

India – 2 percent

Experts in finer details, such as embroidery on blouses and shawls.

Italy –
A Lasting Love Affair

We have been making jeans since 1978. And we know how important each individual detail is. That is why all our denim is made in the country that is home to the best mills, manufacturers and laundries: Italy. It’s a place where products are lovingly made by hand and have been for generations. This ongoing, close cooperation with our Italian partners, together with decades of collective expertise, is the key to our trademark Closed quality.

A Fair Price

We believe in openness and clear communication. Even when it comes to money. Closed products come at a certain price. But: what we charge is calculated honestly. There are cheaper providers – but they do not deliver the same Closed quality. There are comparable products from other suppliers – but at a much higher price. How much is a pair of jeans worth that is 100% made in Italy? What price do you put on the fact that we produce 85% of our entire range in Europe? We choose to be honest and transparent because we want our pricing to be clear and understandable. We feel this is fair.

„If you want the finest trousers, you have to go to the country with the finest yarn, weaving mills and laundries.“
Gordon Giers

The Trend –
Pro-Europe

PORTUGAL –
A NEW FRIENDSHIP

In recent years we have grown even closer to Portugal. We currently manufacture around 15 percent of our products in the country. This makes the Iberian nation our No. 2 producer in Europe after Italy. In the last few years the Portuguese textile industry has managed to successfully reinvent itself: with a passion for innovation and a strong sense of tradition. It has become the country’s fastest-growing export sector. And we too have come to know and love our Portuguese partners: three production sites located in the north of the country close to Porto, a centuries-old hub for textile manufacturing. These companies mainly produce our blouses, shirts, T-shirts and leather accessories. With great attention to detail and an inherent appreciation of quality.

Mundicorte

Since 2008, this business in the sedate town of São Martinho do Campo has been primarily producing our shirts and blouses. All with ‘profession and passion’ – the motto the company’s founders Agostinho Pereira and José Almeida set out to uphold when they began back in 1988. It started as a small-scale operation, producing only men’s shirts, but was gradually expanded to also include womenswear. Today Mundicorte is a flourishing family business: here sons, nephews and cousins work in various roles within the company. Not to forget the 200 expertly trained specialists who bring our designs to life in modern, brightly lit workshops. Many of them start as apprentices and stay until retirement.

A few figures

  • 7,500: the approximate number of shirts produced by Mundicorte per week.
  • 90,000: the average number of Closed shirts that leave the site every year.

Caifai

Our jersey specialists. Caifai produces tops and T-shirts for Closed. This family-run business was founded in 1987 by husband-and-wife team David and Conceição Simões in Barcelos. The company has become a key employer in the region, with 140 people currently working at its production site.

Did you know?

Caifai transforms our designs into garments with the help of state-of-the-art CAD/CAM software that ensures extremely precise planning and keeps material waste to a minimum. Each finished item undergoes strict quality control before being carefully ironed and packaged by hand so that it reaches us in perfect condition.

We are family!

When the Simões utter these words, they mean their entire company. Two generations – together with their partners and siblings – are now at the helm. To support the steadily growing family business, the founders’ son, André Simões, even recently hung up his stethoscope – and now works in the management team.

Daros

This company has been producing our bags and leather accessories since 2013. And it’s always a treat to travel to their brand-new, futuristic headquarters in São Pedro da Cova where a team of around 30 people employ their passion and expertise to deliver the same goal: to produce leather goods that combine craftsmanship, tradition and the latest trends. And, like us, they also believe that every detail counts.

By the way,

... Daros cuts all its samples and small parts by hand.

... David Roque and his daughter Carla are Daros’ in-house leather specialists.

Woman power

The story of Daros is one of strong women. In 1972, shortly after the birth of her daughter Carla, Celeste Oliveira Soares set up her own business producing leather goods. It was so successful that her husband David Roque came on board in 1981 – and the couple launched Daros (a mix of both their names). Today their daughter Carla manages the Commercial Department – son Paulo takes care of material procurement and finance. And the third generation isn’t far behind. Granddaughter Ines is already learning the ropes at university.

China –
A Special Relationship

We are aware of the reputation Chinese factories have. And also of the reality in many businesses there. But some are different. Take these two, for example, who are very dear to our hearts:

Union Apparel
in Hong Kong

Company boss Philip Law is more than a partner. He’s a true friend. When he started Union Apparel almost 20 years ago, he wasn’t just focused on high-quality standards and continuous, technological progress. But fair, above average wages for his employees. Closed was one of his first customers. We have grown with him. We always know where and how far along the production process of our products are. And we continue to put our faith in Union Apparel’s expertise – particularly when it comes to premium sportswear.

Donglong
in Shanghai

Our outerwear specialist. It’s a partnership that began back in 2008. When you know someone well – along with all the relevant production sites and the laundry – not only can you work well together. There is also room for experimentation. Jackets, coats and vests with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Featherless insulation are the result of one of our shared visions. We spent a long time refining the design until the synthetic down substitute was perfectly incorporated. And it won’t be long before work begins on the next projects.
